Are you taking the time you need to rest and relax? It is important to give your body and mind a rest periodically. Otherwise, the negative effects of prolonged stress can increase your chances of getting a stress-related disease.
I know that a lot of you might be feeling that you don’t have time to rest and relax. Not to worry… I have some suggestions to help you fit relaxation into even the busiest of schedules.
It is time for a mini mental vacation. It is time to take a quick trip in your mind’s eye to a beautiful place. This is easy to do and you will be surprised by how calming a few minutes of imagery can be.
As you look at this picture, take a few nice deep breaths. Close your eyes, if you want, and imagine that you are at the beach right now. Imagine inhaling the fresh ocean air and exhaling any stress or tension you feel. That’s it! Do that again… inhale relaxation and exhale tension. Imagine feeling the sand beneath your feet and the warm ocean breeze on your face. Imagine all of your worries and distracting thoughts floating out to sea. There you go… just let them go. No need to hold on to your worries at this time.
When you are ready, simply open your eyes and return to your regular activities. Do this imagery frequently through the week. The more often you practice, the better you will get and the more relaxed you will feel
