Important notice

I am having gallbladder surgery on Monday (6/15/09) and will be unavailable for several days afterward.  I have automated the daily affirmations for you to continue to enjoy while I am recouperating.  If you have trouble, please leave an email or voicemail so that I can get to you when I am up again. 

Update - surgery was postponed because I have a fever and sore throat.  New surgery date is Monday June 22nd.

A pre-election plea to US citizens

Those of you who have been around for a while know that I don't write about politics here on my blog.  It is not that I don't have strong political views - I do.  I avoid the subject here because it doesn't fit with this blog.  Today I am making an exception.  I am going to write about politics.... however, it's probably not what you think.

I know that as the election in the US grows closer, people are getting more energized and vocal about their views.  It is easy to feel the hostility growing.  That's the part I don't like.  I believe that most US citizens want a strong and healthy nation.  We simply have different views about how to get there.  And that's ok!  That's the beauty of the US, we get to have different opinions.  We get to vote for candidates that we think will be best for our country.  We ought to be free to express our views without being attacked. 

If you have strong political beliefs, by all means, please stand strong for what you believe in.  Get out and vote to express your opinions.  I also ask that when you are talking to others, please realize that the person you are talking to might not share your views.  Respect the differences.  Talk about the differences... but, please don't belittle someone else for their beliefs.  They have the same right as you do to their political views. 

I hope for a country where everyone feels comfortable to talk about their political views without being bashed, belittled, or berated.  

I invite your comments.  However, please be polite, respectful, and kind.  Political bashing will not be tolerated. 

Jerry White on GMA

If you have been hanging out here for a while, you might remember my book review on the book I Will Not Be Broken.  The highlight of the review is that Jerry's book is fabulous. 

I believe Jerry's book is genius in action. Even thought he shares details of tragic events and raw emotions, the pages are filled with hope and positivity. He provides a clear road map for moving from surviving to thriving.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Every two minutes a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer!  Chances are that you or someone you know has been touched by breast cancer.  Living with and surviving cancer is full of intense challenges.  My heartfelt support goes out to each and everyone of you who are currently facing these sometimes overwhelming challenges. 

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I have some great resources to pass along. 

I Couldn't Stand the Thought of Losing My Hair is a compelling book about the journey many women face as they undergo treatment for cancer.  The book details the stories of 84 courageous women who share in their own words their pain, their strength, their humor and their wisdom.  They offer support and hope to other women facing the same journey.

Personal Development Parnters

Aaron Potts has launched the new and improved Personal Development Partners site.  It is a cool social networking site for people who are interested in personal development.  There are a lot of cool features, forums, and people.  I just joined and haven't had time to really explore yet, but I look forward to getting more involved.

Happy Positive Thinking Day!

Today is Positive Thinking Day!!  Hooray!! Yippee!!!

I am excited (you probably noticed) about this event!  I truly do believe that if we each make a commitment to be consistently positive today, we can make a difference in this world.  While it is important to be positive every day, this day marks a specific time for each of us to put extra effort into being positive.  This extra positive energy will help make the world a better place.

Positivity is contagious... really!  So, as you make the commitment today to be positive and to hold positive thoughts you will influence those around you.  That's how we change the world... we start with ourselves!  When you are focused on the positive then there will be a ripple effect that spreads out from you.  You can make a difference!  Yes, I am talking to you - each one of you.  So... come on, let's set out today to change the world... one thought at a time!

Update on Lynda Winter

On April 5th, I wrote an attitude of gratitude post about Lynda Winter.  She was a phenomenal woman!  I had the pleasure of spending some time with Lynda at a mutual friend's house.  Lynda also granted me the privilege of interviewing her for a project that I am working on called "in their own words." 

Lynda died on August 5, 2007 - or as she would say, she left on her ultimate trip (one she didn't have to pack for).  Lynda left this world with grace and dignity.  She did not fear death, she saw it as a transition - one that she was ready for.  Rather than having a funeral, she planned a party for her friends and family to celebrate her life.  Lynda was truly one of the most inspirational people I have ever met.  She touched my soul and I will be forever grateful! 

Positive Thinking Magazine Blog

The good folks over at Positive Thinking Magazine have started a blog.  Yours truly is writing 3 posts a week for the PTM blog.  I will be writing about motivation, personal growth, self-care, positive thinking tips, and my spin on the latest positive news.  Alex Ferreyra (the web editor) is also contributing some great posts.
